The name of an ancient Egyptian oligarch's wife. Meaning:
"She belongs to me."
(I wish I could source this, but alas I suspect that in the shortening of URLs, some finds from books that were/are online are not easily searched or found anymore.
Or the site is gone.)
As such, Anexi is my artist name. It's the definition of what my art is: it's a part of me, it's my expression, my obsession.
I am a Canadian multidisciplinary artist
of Ukrainian, Polish and Hungarian ancestry.
I was born in the late 1980's, and have lived
an auspicious, unique life.
Raised in the greater Toronto area,
I've been fortunate to see most of Canada.
I explore different mediums in my art.
My website and socials will
eventually evolve to encompass them.
There's 3 main facets:
• photography in colour & black+white
• paintings in acrylic & watercolour (coming soon! In storage)
• writings: "Memoirs of Myselves," an autobiographical document exploring ancestry and identity (coming soon!); songs and poems (coming soon!)
PHOTOGRAPHY:
My photography offers documentation
of some of my Canadian travels.
In colour, the feeling of the reality of the moment
dominates in its saturation of colour.
Exhilarating, natural beauty, captured vibrantly.
In black+white, rich velvety blacks and silvery grey tones highlight the light source's stark illumination of the subject.
Form and contrast create dramatic shapes.
Clouded skies become moody backdrops,
the camera painting
with light and shadow.
PAINTINGS:
My paintings range from trying to
recreate a photograph, to freestyle creations.
WRITINGS:
(coming soon!)
